Members of the House should research reasons for and against going to war with the British in 1812.
Members of the House will be organized into TWO Groups: Peaceful Pigeons and WarHawks

Task 1: Context for going to War
Read the following links HERE and HERE in a Google Doc (can be same as Louisiana Purchase) summarize the reasons for and against the War of 1812.
Task 2: Research your State’s political views in 1811 and the War Hawks
Check out this website for some information about political parties and who represented each state during the 12th congressional congress (click). You can also sort this MAP to the 12th Congressional Session only and view the representatives for your state. Click on each to see some information about them.
Take some notes about how you think your state would have sided in the debate over the War of 1812.
Task 3: Textbook Reading 322-331
Read the textbook pages 322-331 on the War of 1812. In Innovation Assessments answer questions 1-2 on page 326 and 1-2 0n page 331.
Task 4: Position Paper
Each state will write a short 100-250 word position paper on whether or not the US should declare war on Britain in 1812. In this short position paper, include your state’s belief (war or no war) and reasoning for it. You do not need to include citations but the writing should be yours only. This will be graded. We will convene our House of Representatives debate on declaring war. Be prepared to speak. It counts as a grade.
